Introducing Headspace. An app based on mindfulness, this app can reduce stress and anxiety, improve sleep quality, help you manage pain and cope with painful thoughts and feelings.
The Headspace app provides a series of simple mindfulness meditation exercises to help people familiarise themselves with the qualities of mindfulness.
Although there are a plethora of mindfulness apps available, I like the Headspace app because it is designed to make each mindfulness meditation relevant and easy to incorporate into daily life – even for the busiest of people.
It also allows you to keep track of a range of statistics about your use of the app. As someone who is interested in my own state of mind, I love the idea of collecting your own personal data and increasing your self-knowledge. I also love the opportunity for personal accountability, as this a crucial component of any effective behavioural change effort.
Whilst the app is fantastic, it’s unlikely that a single app can be a comprehensive treatment for clinical disorders or severe distress. In other words, it can’t treat you if you’ve got a serious health issue.
